Sub-Zero Refrigerator Error Codes: EC 05
EC 05 typically indicates inconsistent temperatures within the freezer or refrigerator compartments. The most common culprit behind this error code is a faulty thermistor. The thermistor is a sensor responsible for monitoring the temperature inside your fridge. Loose or damaged connections between the thermistor and the control board can also trigger this error. In some cases, the thermistor itself may be defective.
Check Thermistor Connections: Start by inspecting the connections between the thermistor and the control board. Ensure they are secure and not loose or damaged. Re-seat the connections if necessary.
Vacuum your condenser: reset your error codes by holding the “alarm” bell button for 15 seconds.
Inspect Thermistor: If the connections appear fine, you can test the thermistor itself. Use a multimeter to check its resistance. A faulty thermistor will typically have an erratic or out-of-spec resistance reading. If it’s out of range, it may need replacement.
Reset the Refrigerator: Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve minor issues. Turn off the power to your Sub-Zero refrigerator by switching off the circuit breaker for about 30 seconds. Then, turn it back on and monitor if the error code reappears.
This repair requires special tools and training to fix, so it’s best to call a Sub-Zero error codes repair expert.
